Social Justice
AVANZAR is committed to equitable and inclusive treatment for our diverse community and maintaining a fully integrated and educated staff. We celebrate diversity and work to help people of all ages, races, nationalities, religions, physical abilities, sexual orientations and gender identities. We have pledged to create an environment that respects everyone’s heritage, traditions, and experiences. Our goal is to eliminate discrimination by becoming change agents in the workplace and in the community.

AVANZAR’s Social Justice Efforts
Our organization is part of the Committee on Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement and Community Outreach and Public Education Subcommittee of the Superior Court of NJ Atlantic/Cape May Vicinage. This partnership connects AVANZAR to governmental and nonprofit partners, allowing us to unite our efforts against all forms of prejudice.
Furthermore, AVANZAR’s Sacred Healing Spaces program hosts culturally-specific support groups for survivors of domestic violence, abuse, and sexual assault. Our other outreach efforts include the Chat for Change podcast, which engages guests throughout our communities to bring awareness to social justice issues; radio and television public service advertisements; a local radio show on 88.7 FM WEHA; and past participation at the NAACP National Conference.
AVANZAR’s theatrical production, titled Things I Remember… A Conversation on Racism in the U.S., was created thanks to the contributions of our staff and community members, who submitted their real experiences of discrimination. The goal of this production is to spark open dialogue and understanding for audience members - if you are interested in setting up a performance at your organization, please contact Deborah Hamani.
Our social justice work has also included working with both community members and local and county police departments on the issues of domestic violence in communities of color.

Antiracism Training
AVANZAR is available to provide customized training for organizations, government partners, or nonprofit agencies interested in Dismantling Racism Initiatives. For additional information on training from AVANZAR, please contact Deborah Hamani using the form below or call (609) 601-9925 ext. 1016.

Our Caucuses and Change Team
In order to foster accountability and continually improve our anti-discrimination efforts, AVANZAR uses a caucus system of internal discussion. AVANZAR staff members who identify as white and those who are people of color meet both together and separately for dialogue and consensus on how to apply change strategies in the workplace, creating a safe forum to discuss systemic racism and white privilege.
Our Change Team consists of a diverse group of staff members, all of whom have a passion for making a difference in the workplace. It is the Change Team’s advice that guides our internal Dismantling Racism Initiative.
We look forward to seeing how we can help shape your workplace, school, or other organization into a more inclusive and equitable place.
